Please be advised that the Town of New-Wes-Valley has received correspondents from the Canadian Coast Guard stating that the C.C.G.S Earl Grey will be conducting harbour breakout starting the Glovertown Area in the AM on March 08, 2019. The icebreaker will then be making its way to the Valleyfield Harbour. The icebreaker will be leaving an open water track in the ice. The Town would like to advise all residents to refrain from walking on the ice or using motorized vehicles in the area.
“CCG informs the local communities of the inherent risks of icebreaking activities. CCG cannot have absolute control on the behavior of the ice. Depending on various conditions, the ice can be pushed instead of broken and ice can crack or break far away from the location where the icebreaker is working. This can cause risks for the safety of people and property. The public is warned to act accordingly, i.e. refrain from walking on the ice; remove mobile equipment in advance of icebreaking activities; protect permanently non moveable property, for instance”.
