Town Of New-Wes-Valley – Smoke Free Policy At Recreation Facilities and Town Office
The Town of New-Wes-Valley recognizes Tobacco Smoke affects everyone smokers and non-smokers. The health hazards of tobacco smoke are well documented. Involuntary exposure to tobacco smoke is a hazard over which the town has control of with respect to its own properties. Therefore, the following policy is being implemented for the town of New-Wes-Valley at its recreation facilities and Town Office.
The objectives of the policy are:
* Provide a healthy and safe environment for players, coaches, spectators and the general public.
* Promote and support healthy behaviors.
Effective August 1, 2019 all facilities and areas identified in this policy will become smoke free.
Town employees shall install and maintain signs at all town facilities identified in this policy. Signs will be installed in highly visible areas and clearly indicate smoking is not permitted. The Town of New-Wes-Valley recognizes the challenges of enforcement, department heads and staff will be directed of the policy and must abide by it. Copy of the policy will be provided to the local RCMP.
The following facilities and properties are covered in this policy;
* All outside facilities including Playgrounds, Tennis court, Basketball court, Soft ball fields, Municipal Park Building and Walking trails.
The Town of New-Wes-Valley will permit smoking in designated areas of outside recreation facilities during community special events, an example of this event would be the Crab Festival. A written request to permit smoking in a designated areas must be approved by the Town of New-Wes-Valley.
The Town of New-Wes-Valley adopted this Smoke Free Policy on the 21st of May, 2019.
